The motor home is based on a 2004 Mistubishi Canter 4x4 light truck with the wheel base stretched to accommodate a motor home body 2150 mm wide and around 4600 mm long with a 300 mm nose cane. The wheelbase is now about 3560 compared to the standard 3380 for a MWB Canter.

It has a tropical roof with a bunch of solar panels incorporated into it. The solar panels are regulated by a Morningstar regulator and 12 volt power is stored in a bank of four 6 volt 260 Ah AGM batteries wired in series and paralell to give 520 Ah at 12 volts.

We have a Honda EU20i generator in an insulated compartment that can provide the 240v power to run the split reverse cycle air conditioner and the 2.5 kg washing machine. Two 9kg gas bottles provide gas for the two burner SMEV stove and the 26 litre gas hot water system. Lights, laptop computers, refrigerator and all other power is 12 volt. The lights are virtually all LEDs in a variety of downlights and surface mounted lights.

The truck has a bullbar fitted with a 12,000 lb winch and we are equipped with recovery gear rated for the 6,000 kg motor home. (extra high lift jacks, snatch straps etc.)

The outside walls of the motor home is clad with 3mm chequer plate aluminium and the roll out awning, hot water system etc. are recessed to reduce the likelihood of them being damaged by trees. The outside is painted in Thermashield paint and there is a layer of air cell insulation then 50mm polystyrene foam for insulation. The interior walls are lined with 6 mm ply and the ceiling is lined with a light, patterned ply.  Shutters on either side of the living area open almost to the horizontal position allowing plenty of airflow and a vent\escape hatch in the centre of the roof facilitates airflow as well. There is removable midge proof screening on all windows and hatches.

There is stacks of storage space and we are able to carry lots of fuel and water (drinking, general use, grey and black).

There is a compost toilet and a shower in a small bathroom and hot water is supplied by a 26 litre gas hot water system. There is also an outside shower with hot and cold water.

Sleeping is done either on a drop down bed which folds out from the rear of the truck with the roof folding up to form a "moon roof". Alternatively we are able to convert the daytime sitting area into a large bed.

We will have a laptop for running a GPS and moving map software using a USB mouse GPS. The laptop will also be for email, playing movies (and solitaire) and MP3s.

Cooking is done on a SMEV 2 burner stove and we've got a 200+ litre fridge running on 12v, pull-out pantry, filtered drinking water and crockery and cutlery where no one item matches any other.  :-)
